The following non-editable "Grace Period" appears on a payment form when a guests selects "I will send a check in the mail".
"The security deposit for this booking is due by Aug 21, 2024. If it is not received by then, your booking may be canceled. If you think your security deposit may not get to us in time, please contact us and let us know so that your booking isn't canceled. It it your responsibility to make sure that we have received security deposit by the due date which includes any time that it takes for the check to clear with our bank."
Besides the grammatical errors in the paragraph, the bolded statement is unnecessary. With that statement in there, how does an owner retain the right to cancel a reservation when a check isn't received by the due date? The bolded statement is completely unnecessary wiggle room. Owner Rez should remove the bolded statement to be sure renters understand an owner has the authority to cancel the reservation if the check is late.
Thanks for the catches on the misspellings and grammar in that 4th sentence! We are releasing an update tomorrow to fix. We left the sentence you bolded in there for now as others back in the day had requested such language.
The right to cancel is still there though due to the first, second, and fourth sentences. If a guest contacts you regarding this, you have the right to believe them or not that the "check is in the mail." You may still cancel or you could ask them to supply a credit/debit card for the security deposit (whether a hold or refundable one), sending them a request link to schedule one via such methods under the booking's transactions.
As I mentioned in another post to your question, the guest/booking forms redesign is ongoing, and we're working through the rest of them this year as quickly as possible. We'll keep user customization of this section in mind as we go forward.
It would be significantly clearer to all guests if you would rephrase the third sentence to give this power to the business.
For example:
"The security deposit for this booking is due by Aug 21, 2024. If it is not received by then, your booking may be canceled. It is your responsibility to make sure that we have received security deposit by the due date which includes any time that it takes for the check to clear with our bank. Please contact (business name) if you think your security deposit may not arrive in time."
