Here is what came from VRBO to some vrbo users. question: will it affect those who are API integrated?
Due to a law change, Vrbo will soon be required to collect and remit State and Local Sales Tax for all online bookings in Tennessee. Since we will be collecting these taxes and remitting them directly to the state, you are no longer responsible for their collection or remittance.
To help you manage the Local Lodging Tax you are still responsible for collecting and remitting directly to your local government, we will soon be announcing some new tax setting options.
On the effective date above, we will send you another notification with a link to your updated tax settings in your dashboard. At that time, you will be able to review all the taxes applicable to your listing, including rates, taxable amounts, government(s) requiring the tax, and who is responsible for the tax (Vrbo or you). You will also be able to select the local tax collection option that works best for your business.
Note: You should prepare to select a local tax collection option on the effective date to avoid any gaps in your tax collection. We will not be responsible for any under collected local lodging taxes if you fail to select an option.
We have reached out to our engineering contacts at VRBO, and they have confirmed that this *will not* have any effect on API clients.
Just another reason why using our HA/VRBO API is the way to go!
